Chris Sutton Points Towards Positive Position Change For Kyogo

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has not hit the heights this season like he did in 2022/23. So far in the current campaign, the Japanese hitman has bagged eleven goals in all competitions, a figure that for his standard, is sub-par.

Although he has come up with some colossal moments in Glasgow derbies, on the whole under Brendan Rodgers, Kyogo has failed to capture the imagination. He has remained stagnant in matches, failing to get himself involved.

He has appeared as an isolated figure at the top end of the park however for a short period against Aberdeen, that changed. When new signing Adam Idah was introduced, the Hoops’ attack looked effective.

Kyogo was much more involved, and this is something pundit and ex-Celt Chris Sutton recently pointed out. He said (Live on air on Sky Sports via 67 Hail Hail): “I may be wrong, but Kyogo, since the substitutions and him playing in a different position, it has probably seen him have more touches during that little period than the entire game.”

In his assumption, Sutton is correct. All of the three shots that Kyogo took during the game were in the spell that he played slightly deeper.

The introduction of Idah as a focal point undoubtedly helped the 28-year-old and allowed him to have much more freedom and get more involved. Implementing a similar system to what was in play when the game finished on Saturday at Easter Road would be a wise move from Brendan Rodgers that could get the best out of the attackers at his disposal.
