Although his Celtic career is just over a week old, Adam Idah has instated himself as a favourite among the supporters of the club. His brace at Easter Road ensured the Hoops secured three vital points on the road, and that they kept up the pace in the title race.
His early displays in green and white have captured the imagination. At the minute, he is keeping star striker Kyogo Furuhashi out of the team.
Nerves of steel were required to step up and take the spot-kick that determined whether Celtic would win or not on Wednesday night, but the 22-year-old took the pressure in his stride. He kept a cool head and slotted into the bottom-left corner to send the travelling support into a state of delirium.
Despite signing just last week, Idah has already taken on a wealth of responsibility at the club through taking penalties. The Hoops have had their troubles from twelve yards this season, but the loanee seems to have solved them.
The likes of David Turnbull, Reo Hatate, and Luis Palma have all missed spot-kicks at one point or another this campaign, and manager Brendan Rodgers has given reasoning as to why Idah was handed the responsibility so early on in his time in Glasgow: “He showed great composure”, he said (BBC Scotland).
“He’s scored penalties at the very highest level. That’s why we put him on them.”
Before joining Celtic, Idah had yet to miss a spot-kick in his career. He has undoubtedly banished the Hoops’ penalty woes, and taken the reigns with ease.
