Derek McInnes Says Celtic Played Into Killie’s Hands

Kilmarnock left Parkhead with a point in their clash against Celtic, but they could have easily left with more, had it not been for some tremendous saves from Joe Hart.

Despite Celtic taking the lead with Kyogo Furuhashi’s header in the 32nd minute, Kilmarnock equalised in stoppage time through David Watson.

Celtic, under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, found themselves retreating in the latter stages of the match, allowing Kilmarnock to capitalise and secure a draw.

With only 12 league games remaining, the pressure is on for Celtic to demonstrate they can get back to performing at the highest level. The upcoming match against Motherwell presents an opportunity for Rodgers’ side to bounce back and regain their momentum in the title race against an on-form side.

Reflecting on the match, McInnes praised his team’s effort, especially in the face of Celtic’s possession dominance in the first half. However, he also pointed out that much of Celtic’s possession was with their defensive players, a senario Kilmarnock was content with as it did not pose significant threats to their goal.

He said: [BBC] “We had to suffer a wee bit in terms of possession in the first half, but we felt a wee bit hard done-by by the fact we go in 1-0 down. That said, while they had a lot of possession, it was a lot of their players who we wanted to be in possession.”
