The meeting, which had been anticipated since the weekend, focused on finding a suitable exit route for Abada, who has expressed a desire to leave the Scottish Premiership side.

Abada, 22, has sat out Celtic’s matches since coming off the bench against Hibs, with Brendan Rodgers saying the player is not in the right frame of mind to represent the club. This decision comes amid growing pressure from his homeland because of the pro-Palestine stance of a section of Celtic’s fanbase amid Israel’s siege on Palestine.

The prospect of a move to Major League Soccer appears to be the most viable option for Abada, considering the closure of most other international transfer windows. Interest from several U.S. clubs has been noted, though finalising a permanent transfer may present challenges. The MLS’s Designated Player rules and Celtic’s insistence on a transfer fee complicate the potential deal.

The urgency to resume playing is driven by his aspirations to represent Israel in the upcoming Euro 2024 play-off against Iceland next month.
