Former Celtic striker and now pundit Chris Sutton reckons he could get a game at the back for the Hoops given how slow they are in build-up play.
Over the past few games, Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales have partnered up at the heart of the backline. Although they are relatively sound defensively, the duo do have their pitfalls.
When playing out from the back, Welsh and Scales are slow and lack the required cutting edge to break a line or play a key pass. They hinder the speed of the Hoops’ game.

Bringing players such as Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke, who have been exiled of late, into the team would potentially help solve the issue but the manager is insistent on continuing with the Irish and Scottish partnership.
On Sky Sports on Sunday, Sutton firstly criticised Brendan Rodgers for how he has regressed and failed to improve the Celtic team before later saying that the speed of the play is too pedestrian: “This is on Brendan”, he said.
“Celtic should be putting teams away domestically.
“Since Brendan’s come back all we’ve heard is the need for speed, passing, play. Celtic are predictable.
“You look at Celtic’s backline – I fancy playing against them at my age!”
