Brendan Rodgers Explains Half Time Celtic Sub

Brendan Rodgers highlighted Celtic’s match-winner, Adam Idah, after an impressive substitute appearance against Motherwell.

Idah ultimately won the game for Celtic with his brace in a 3-1 victory, which for large spells looked unlikely due to Motherwell holding on.

The Irish striker is slowly becoming a fan favourite, especially with his stoppage-time winners.

This has led fans to believe in a striker who, only weeks ago, was criticised for not being Celtic’s number one striker target in January.

Rodgers said [Celticfc.com],“Adam coming on was huge for us. I felt at half-time that we needed both movement and someone who could look after the ball for us, and the big guy comes in and scores two fantastic goals.

“He’s got a lot of qualities and hopefully here, over these remaining months he can show those.

“We needed that because we didn’t really have anything in the first period. Kyogo’s a guy that likes to run in behind, but in a game like today we needed someone who could take the ball into feet as well and, like I said, he scored two very good goals.”

With his outstanding display today, Idah showed why Rodgers has so much faith in him, with the Irishman previously compared to former Hoops striker Moussa Dembele by Rodgers.

Idah has a long way to go to live up to Dembele, but in his month at the club, he has proven to be a great addition to the squad, bringing a different dynamic with his aerial threat and hold-up play.
