Brendan Rodgers has reacted to the importance of Celtic centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers’ return from injury.
Before the weekend’s clash against Motherwell, the imposing defender hadn’t played since the end of January against Ross County in a 1-0 win. He was restored to the team on Sunday, though, coming on for the last half hour of the game.
Replacing Maik Nawrocki at the heart of the defence, Carter-Vickers brought stability and calmness to the backline that has perhaps been missing in recent weeks. He is the best defender at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal.

Ahead of the run-in, the significance of the 26-year-old’s return should in no way be underestimated. Celtic are a much more solid unit with him in the team, and fans have a sense of security and extra faith in the defence when he is playing.
Brendan Rodgers recognises the security he brings, too. Speaking after yesterday’s late victory, the gaffer praised Carter-Vickers.
When asked about the return of the defender, he said (The Celtic Way): “It’s massive for us. You see when he comes into the game, there’s no trouble.
“The big guy up front (Theo Bair) gave us a problem in the first half with his strength and his size, and Cam comes in and just controls that side of it and allows us to play and get forward quicker because he’s controlling that along with Scalesy.
“So, him (CCV) coming back is huge for us.”
