Former Celtic striker John Hartson has given his verdict on the Hoops’ crucial 3-1 win over Motherwell on Sunday.
Blair Spittal opened the scoring for the hosts early on, although substitute Adam Idah’s brace saw The Bhoys in front by the 94th minute. Luis Palma sealed the win seconds later with a back-post tap-in.
The Celts left it late yet again, but their second-half performance more than merited three points. In the opening 45, Brendan Rodgers’ men were familiarly slow, failing to bring any zip and real conviction to their play.
After the manager made a few alterations, however, things improved. Idah provided a focal point up top while Yang brought penetration out wide.
Rodgers’ changes were effective, but the continual inconsistency of displays is concerning in the mind of Hartson. After the late win over the Steelmen, the Welshman took to X.
Admitting his delight at the result, Hartson said that the Celts need to be at the same level they were in the second half yesterday throughout the remainder of the campaign: “Good three points for the Hoops”, he said.
“Second-half was so much better…players can’t afford to pick it up whenever they like, it’s got to be more consistent like it was in the second half for the rest of the season.”
