Hyun-Jun Yang’s standout performance in Celtic’s 7-1 demolition of Dundee has drawn widespread acclaim.

Having faced criticism for failing to make a significant impact since his arrival, Yang seized his opportunity with both hands when he was named in the starting lineup, following a promising substitute appearance against Motherwell.
Yang’s dynamic display on the wing, where he did what no other winger has this season, showing directness and positivity, was a key factor in Celtic’s impressive first half.
Facing off against one of the league’s most talked about left-backs, Owen Beck, Yang’s performance was particularly noteworthy, with Gordon Dalziel highlighting the South Korean’s ability to cause significant problems for his opponent.
“The difference for me last night, and I criticised him a few weeks ago on the show, I thought Yang was brilliant. I thought he was positive and direct,” Dalziel commented on Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard.
“That’s one of the best left-backs in the league [Owen Beck who Yang was up against]. Celtic were actually looking at him at one point. Yang absolutely gave him a headache last night. I thought that he started the ball rolling.”
Indeed, Yang’s influence was such that he was credited with sparking Celtic’s dominant display, showcasing the kind of potential that had perhaps been lying dormant since his move to the club. His contribution did not go unnoticed by fans or his manager, Brendan Rodgers.
With Celtic in a tight title race, performances like Yang’s against Dundee could play a crucial role in Celtic’s push for silverware this season.
