Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland has discussed post-match ‘harsh’ VAR decisions given in Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle.
With Celtic receiving a red card and a penalty against after VAR intervention from John Beaton, VAR played a significant role in crucial moments of the game.
After the game, Shankland spoke honestly, highlighting his opinion that each decision was questionable due to VAR’s influence.

Shankland said [Sky Sports], “You never really know to be honest. The game obviously stopped at different times and the two incidents were obviously the red card and the penalty.
“I thought it was pretty harsh honest but I have not seen the contact to that. So that’s me commenting from afar.
“But you take it and ride your luck when the decisions go for you.”
Shankland’s comments are a breath of fresh air.
For the Hearts captain to come out so frankly and condemn the VAR decisions says a lot about what transpired against Celtic today.
If not for VAR, we could have been discussing a different game.
However, with its heavy intervention at Tynecastle, it was yet another poor display from the technology.
Since its inception in Scotland, many have questioned if it helps or hinders the game, with emphasis on freeze-framing incidents on the pitch to make the most of any contact between players.
