Celtic Won’t Miss Brendan Rodgers on the Touchline for the Derby, Claims Pundit

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is facing a touchline ban that could see him miss the pivotal match at Ibrox against Rangers.

This potential ban depends on the outcome of Rodgers’ upcoming hearing on Thursday, March 28, over comments made about the officiating following Celtic’s defeat to Hearts.

Should Rodgers be found guilty, he will be subject to a minimum two-game ban, according to regulations.

Despite concerns from some quarters that Rodgers’ absence could significantly impact Celtic’s performance, pundit Andy Walker has downplayed the potential effects. Walker strongly believes that Celtic’s preparation and understanding of their tactical approach are well ingrained in the players, diminishing the impact of Rodgers’ potential absence from the touchline.

Speaking on Go Radio he said: “The fact it’s three weeks down the line – if they really wanted to I’m sure they could meet up beforehand but I don’t think you will find any Celtic player (saying) ‘we can’t go to Ibrox without our manager’.

“I’ve yet to be inspired by just looking over at a manager at the touchline. I think all your work is done during the week. You’re geared into your opponent, their style of play, your own style of play.

“I think all the Celtic players will know their job at Ibrox.”

It’s going to be a massive match in this title race. Whether Walker thinks having Rodgers pitchside makes a difference or not, everyone would rather he was stood in the technical area.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the hearing on March 28.
