Bosun Lawal: Rising Star on Loan Poised for Celtic First Team?

Bosun Lawal, the 20-year-old Celtic defender currently on loan at Fleetwood Town, is rapidly becoming a player to watch, potentially positioning himself for a role in Celtic’s first team next season.

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown initially brought Lawal to Fleetwood Town during his tenure as manager last summer.

Despite Brown’s departure and the subsequent management changes at Fleetwood Town, with Lee Johnson and now Charlie Adam at the helm, Lawal’s development has continued to impress. Recently, under Charlie Adam’s stewardship, Lawal has been utilised in midfield, where his performances have drawn considerable praise from his current manager.

Lawal’s adaptability has been a standout feature of his loan spell, competently playing as a centre-half, full-back, and defensive midfielder. His physical presence, standing at 6’2″, combined with his strength, has made him a formidable opponent in League One, where he’s been consistently making a name for himself.

After Fleetwood’s win at the weekend, where Lawal was man of the match, he took to X, formally Twitter, posting “We keep going”.

This loan period at Fleetwood Town could indeed be the pivotal experience Lawal needs to break into the Celtic first team. Gaining senior-level experience against quality players and demonstrating versatility across defensive positions enhance his appeal to Celtic’s coaching staff. Moreover, his regular involvement with the Ireland under-21s adds an international dimension to his growing resume, further underlining his potential and readiness for higher challenges.

With Celtic likely to be looking for some defensive reinforcements in the summer, could Lawal be the man to take the step up? He’s been great with the B Team and now Fleetwood, he’s at least deserving of the chance.
