The 21-year-old, who arrived from Gangwon FC in the summer for £2 million, has made 23 appearances for Celtic, contributing one goal and one assist, not quite sparkling numbers.

While acknowledging the need for improvement, Rodgers highlighted Yang’s promising traits and his commitment to aiding the player’s development.

Yang, along with his fellow countryman Oh Hyeongyu, returned to Celtic following their participation in the Asian Cup with South Korea. Both players featured off the bench in Celtic’s recent 2-0 Scottish Cup victory over St Mirren, with Yang looking bright.

Rodgers, speaking to Celtic TV, shared his vision for Yang’s role within the squad, suggesting a positional tweak might unlock the player’s full potential. “He’s a player that I think can do really well. It’s just a case of bringing him in. He’s come in predominantly having played on the right side. But the more I see him in training, he can play on the right, but I think he’s better suited off the left so when he comes into the game, he has that running ability,” Rodgers explained.

“He has areas to improve, awareness of when to release the pass and make the cross, but these are all items that will come with more work and development. But I love his attitude and I love the energy that he brings to the game, and he will continuously improve I’m sure,” Rodgers added.

Yang Hyun-Jun’s journey at Celtic is still in its early stages, and under Rodgers’ guidance, there is optimism that he can evolve into a key figure for the Hoops. With a clear development plan and support from the coaching staff, Yang’s future at Celtic looks promising as he aims to make a significant impact in Scottish football.
