Even Kris Boyd Can’t Believe Celtic Decision

Kris Boyd has spoken of his confusion over Don Robertson’s decision to give Hearts a penalty after a VAR review.

Boyd believes that Celtic midfielder Tomoki Iwata did not intentionally handle the ball, and was left in shock at VAR’s intervention.

The former Ibrox man even questioned where Iwata could put his arm in a situation that also left Neil Lennon baffled.

Boyd said [Sky Sports], “This is the only awful decision for me of the half. How this is given as a penalty, Alistair Johnston barges into the back of Iwata.

“The rules are the rules, I get it. I mean, he makes himself bigger there. What is he meant to do there, seriously? What is he meant to do?

“The penalty is given, and you’ve got to say Grant tucks it away beautifully, unlike Idah. But some of the decisions in that first half are baffling for me.”

With the Scottish Premiership title race likely to come down to the wire, decisions like Robertson’s to give a penalty could prove costly at the end of the season.

For Boyd himself to be confused over the penalty awarded to Hearts says a lot about Robertson’s decision to award it after pressure from VAR to change his initial decision.

Celtic failed to win and go top of the league and remain two points behind Rangers.
