Worldwide, there are many celebrity Celtic fans. The likes of Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, and Conor McGregor, to name but a few, have dawned the hoops at one point or another throughout their lives.
Closer to home, people such as Lewis Capaldi, Paolo Nutini, and Billy Connolly are all known supporters of The Bhoys. Perhaps not a celebrity, but one of the most currently influential Scots who is also a fan is Humza Yousaf.
Sworn in as First Minister of Scotland in March of last year, Yousaf was the maiden Scottish Asian and Muslim to hold office at Holyrood. Throughout his political career, he has never hid his adoration for Celtic, unlike many others in his field.
In his time in politics, Yousaf has had to criticise the club, but he has backed them since he was a boy. Speaking on ‘The Rest is Politics’ podcast, the current FM gave an insight into his time as a supporter: “I’ve been a Celtic fan since I was six years old so to somehow pretend I wasn’t a Celtic fan would be a bit ridiculous”, he said.

“My late uncle, who sadly passed away quite young with pancreatic cancer, took me to my first ever Celtic game and I just fell in love with the club.”
It is pleasing to see a figure as influential as Yousaf be so open in his support for Celtic. Few politicians, particularly North of the border, don’t like to open up on their allegiances for obvious reasons.
Yousaf’s approach, though, is refreshing and regardless of their political beliefs, the Parkhead faithful will have some sense of respect for him due to this and his footballing loyalties.
