David Turnbull departed Celtic on the final day of the January transfer window, joining English Championship outfit Cardiff City for a much-welcomed sum of £2m.
Considering the Hoops may have lost the player for free in the summer, the business conducted to sell him last month for such a price was shrewd.
For the majority of the first half of the season, Turnbull wasn’t a first-choice pick. He did start 2023/24 well, but he soon faded.
As the campaign progressed, the 24-year-old’s body language got less enthusiastic and it was clear that he was a player who wanted out. January came, and a suitable exit path was found.

Down south, Turnbull has already made his debut, coming on for the closing stages of Cardiff’s impressive 1-0 win away at Watford on Saturday. Just before that, though, and not long after he left Celtic, Turnbull sent out a message of thanks on Instagram.
Reflecting on his time with the Hoops, the Scotland internationalist thanked everyone involved with the club as he added snaps of some of his greatest moments in green and white:
It was pleasing to see the likes of Kieran Tierney, Josip Juranovic, Liel Abada, and Greg Taylor respond to the post. He seemed a much-liked figure in the dressing room and for the club, Turnbull done himself proud.
In three and a half years, he won a vast six trophies and mustered over 130 appearances. It will be tough to replicate such numbers in Wales, but the former Motherwell man will back himself as he embarks upon a fresh challenge.
