Pundit Baffled at Rodgers’ Refusal of Giving Celtic Summer Signing a Chance

Gustaf Lagerbielke arrived in the summer, with the expectation that he’d play back-up fellow summer signing Maik Nawrocki and defensive stalwart Cameron Carter-Vickers, but it’s not quite transpired like that.

Lagerbielke and Nawrock have only made a combined 18 appearances between themselves this season. Their lack of consistent game time, despite reportedly being fit, has puzzled fans and pundits alike, with the £8 million investments sitting on the bench or not even making the matchday squads.

The situation has been further complicated by the injury of Cameron Carter-Vickers, prompting Rodgers to rely on Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales to partner in defence.

Andy Halliday, sharing his thoughts on Monday night’s Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, shared that he was surprised that Gustaf Lagerbielke wasn’t getting a chance. He said:

“I look at Lagerbielke; I feel he hasn’t had enough opportunity to show that he is good recruitment.

“We have watched plenty of him; I think there have been games where he came in and did well. But it just seems he’s completely out of the picture over the last couple of months.”

Gustaf Lagerbielke has barely put a foot wrong at Celtic, and has even scored the winner in the Champions League match against Feyenoord that saw Celtic win their first home game for over a decade in the competition.
